Mesa Verde Mug Ceramic Workshop

Look for this workshop again in 2010!

No other Mesa Verde ceramic tradition captures the uniqueness of the Mesa Verde like the Mesa Verde mug. The workshop will include lectures, hands-on learning, mug graphic design, and traditional firing techniques. Each participant will build a replica Mesa Verde mug, or mugs if time permits.

No potting experience is required for this workshop - just an interest in learning about the history of the Mesa Verde mug and how they were made.

The firing process will be taught, but the schedule may change due to potential fire restrictions.

Paul Ermigiotti, a former Ranger at Mesa Verde and long-time educator at Crow Canyon Archaeological Center will lead the instructional team with assistance from Gregory Wood of Ancient Arts.

Instructional materials will include a hands-on lecture on the history and significance of the Mesa Verde and how it developed through time. This will be done via multi media as well as by using replicas and possibly original specimens. Pigments and clays will be gathered in advance and tools will be provided by the instructors.

The workshop will be limited to 25 people.  The workshop will require at least 15 registrants to proceed.  More information about this program please visit www.ancientarts.org.
